The Oldest if off to college
It was move-in day to the dorms for our oldest at the end of August. We woke up and triple-checked that we had everything and began our 2 1/2 hour trip to the dorms.
When we got there she realized she still forgot stuff even though we triple-checked the vehicles. So she will be making a quick trip home to grab those things before her classes start.
The move-in process was actually fairly smooth and quick. we only had to make 2 trips up and down and thankfully her building had an elevator. Not that the stairs wouldn't have been a great workout since she is on the seventh floor. It was 85 degrees so the elevator was great!
After we got all her stuff in we went out to eat before making our trek back home. She stayed at her dorm so she could wait for her fridge, microwave, and a few other things that my parents brought down in their truck.
We hugged and told her good luck. I am actually very excited for her to have this amazing experience that I never had. I do not have sadness or a feeling of missing her. I know we will see each other face to face in no time and we have facetime and regular calls to talk till we see each other in person again.
She is super excited but missing us and her fur baby already. As the weeks continue I have confidence she will adjust to this new lifestyle and the missing us feelings will become less and less.
This new experience will bring us all different perspectives and lifestyles that we will adjust accordingly and be perfectly fine!
If you recently sent one of your kids to college or it will be coming up after this school year know that whatever feelings you have they are perfectly ok. This is a completely new way of living and will need some adjustment to get comfortable with it.
I want to know. What do you think?
