Where to Start your Whole body Wellness Journey
Plant the seeds, nurture them, then watch them grow!
Taking care of my mental health is very important to me. My goal here is to do more of what makes me happy and healthy to be a successful wife, mother, sister, friend, and so on. I love listening to podcasts myself but also have a million things going on all the time because I am a hustler regarding reaching my goals, aspirations, and expectations. So I pop in the headphones and listen to my true crime podcasts or self-help ones and work on my cleaning or cooking dinner. You can also listen to an audiobook if you can't sit down to read regularly but enjoy stories. Utilize your time efficiently to maximize your abilities without getting overwhelmed by everything you have to do. As women and mothers, we tend to overfill our plates trying to be the best steward we can be to our kids, spouse, work, house, and friends.
Set limits and clear expectations for your family, friends, and work. I am a planner, so when things suddenly pop up, I decline because it was not in my schedule ahead of time, and I struggle with doing things on the fly or having the plans change 6 million times. It causes me anxiety, so I try to avoid those situations as much as possible. I am also a type 1 personality which is a perfectionist, so I struggle with having things done to the best that they can be and am very critical of myself. Please share if you have any suggestions on how I can improve here or how you overcame your perfectionist tendencies. That is how we learn and grow.
The other thing I do find important is your relationships. Setting time for those people is essential to your health. I put the phone away or turn off the notifications and spend quality time with them. Doing this gives them your full attention, and you get that social interaction we need and strive for as humans. Schedule time for this and stick to it. Whether it is a movie night with the kids, date night with your significant other, or girl/guy time with your friends. You can squeeze it in if you really want to. It can be as simple as cooking dinner with your child or significant other, reading a book together, watching a movie, playing a board game, having a conversation, working out, or taking a walk.
I know we are all crazy busy almost all the time, and we can easily get overwhelmed by trying to keep up with everything. That is where multitasking comes into play, as well as clear communication with your loved ones. Letting them know that you have limited time for things because you are creating healthy habits or that your time is valuable is not selfish, so they know that if they want time with you, it needs to be planned and stuck to when it is scheduled.
You do not have to start all at once with creating healthy habits. You need to decide what you want and where to start. If you switch to all-natural products, start with one thing at a time. You can start with the products you put on your body, such as shampoo, deodorant, etc. when you need to get more shampoo, switch, and so on. Then move to household cleaning products as you need to replace each item.
If you want to eat better, start with one thing at a time. You get overwhelmed and give up when you try to do too much at once. Try adding more fruits and vegetables to your meals and cutting back on the meats and grains portion size. Then move to healthy fats instead of crappy ones. When you change little by little, before you know it, it becomes second nature and less of a chore.
If you want to start by working out or moving more, start with a 10 min workout 2x a week and work your way up. Once you consistently do 10-minute workouts 2x a week, add in more time.
Change doesn't happen overnight. It takes time and effort to accomplish anything. You can do this! One Step or brick at a time.
