What is the craze about CBD?

So many products are popping up everywhere containing CBD. It can be found in food, lotions, oils, tinctures, gummies, and cosmetics.

So, what is CBD?

It is Cannabidiol, a compound found in Hemp and marijuana. CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it will not get you high. Even though CBD is found in both Hemp and Marijuana most companies use hemp to derive their CBD products.

Marijuana contains minimal amounts of CBD and high amounts of THC whereas Hemp contains high amounts of CBD and very low amounts of THC, usually less than .03%. The higher amounts of THC in marijuana are psychoactive and possibly habit-forming.

The high amounts of cannabidiol in hemp make it the perfect plant to pull out these compounds to help treat an array of symptoms in people without having psychoactive effects.

What does CBD do to you?

It calms your mind and body. Can reduce inflammation, aid in pain management, reduce stress and alleviate depression and anxiety symptoms. Some studies have also found that it can be useful in treating sleep disorders, epilepsy, autism, and schizophrenia.

How much CBD should you be taking?

First and foremost, make sure you are getting your CBD from a reputable source. With so many products popping up with CBD in them it can be slightly overwhelming to know who is reputable and who is not.

I personally like Cured Nutrition and Hello Ned. Both these companies grow their products organically and have full transparency and traceability. They have very strict quality control practices to ensure their consumer is getting the best product possible.

They both have THC Free and Full Spectrum products. The Full Spectrum products do contain less than .03% THC, you will not get high from this amount, but it could show up in a urine test.

For the amount to start with it is best to go low and slow. 5-10 mg would be a great start till you can determine how your body will handle it. Then slowly increase the amounts till you get to the desired level for your body. Most people feel very relaxed and drowsy when they begin using CBD, so it is best to take it in the evening and avoid alcohol when using. This drowsiness will eventually dissipate after a couple of weeks.

My thoughts

I have been using CBD for relaxation, sleep, and pain management for over six months now. I absolutely love the sleep I get when I take these supplements. They do not make you drowsy when you wake up like melatonin. You wake up refreshed and ready to go. It feels great to help my mind and body unwind at the end of the day and get a full restful night of sleep.

They come in super cute and chic containers that do not look crazy on your nightstand or vanity. You can get them in capsules, powders, and tinctures so that it fits into your routine just perfectly.

My favorites are Zen by cured nutrition and CBD Night Caps. The ZEN and nightcaps come in a sleep bundle that works together to promote restful sleep and relaxation. It helps me to unwind at the end of the day and wake rested and refreshed. They are also packed full of adaptogens!

ZEN contains 20 mg CBD, Reishi, Ashwagandha, and Skullcap. These adaptogens work with the CBD to promote calm.

Night Caps contain 30 mg of CBD and 5 mg of CBN. CBN is a different component of cannabidiol that has relaxing and drowsiness effects.

Do your research!

Research, research, research. I can not say this enough. Make sure you are purchasing an amazing product that is transparent and traceable. The companies that are transparent are the ones that truly care about the product they are distributing and want their consumer to get the health benefits that are possible.

Hemp has several different components of cannabidiols, and each has different benefits.

CBD – Healing component

CBN – sedative properties

CBG – muscle relaxing

CBC – neurological health

More information on these components can be read here.
