The truth about detoxing
Over the last 15 years, I have put my body through the wringer with foods and toxins clogging up my adrenals, kidneys, liver, thyroid, and lymph nodes. All these work together to clean out the junk that is not supposed to be in your body.
The extreme stress I put on my organs stopped functioning the way they should. I was unable to digest food properly or break it down to absorb any of the nutrients. The lack of nutrients threw me into adrenal fatigue, low blood sugar, disordered thyroid function, borderline anemic, and severe gut dysbiosis.
After doing a minerals and metals test using a hair analysis I found out how deficient I am. Based on my results I was put on a vitamin supplementation program to build all those nutrients back up and get everything back into proper working order. With that supplement regimen came the detoxing process which feels great but also frustrating.
I had to clean out all those organs that were overloaded with toxins so they could perform at an optimal level. I did detox baths, and detox supplements, cut out alcohol, and made very easy-to-digest foods. As I got into the detox process where those toxins were coming out I started freaking out from the side effects.
I was sweating more than I ever have in my life and had a bad body odor halfway through the day. I was so embarrassed to leave my office and interact with people because I didn’t want them to smell me. I started carrying wipes with me and deodorant to touch it up halfway through the day. When your body starts excreting those toxins it comes out through your urine, feces, and sweat. Those toxins mixed with sweat and bacteria create quite a funk.
Depending on how clogged up the body is will depend on how long the detoxing side effects last. The longer the body has been filled with crap the longer it will take. Do not get discouraged it is a process and there are ways to get through those funky times.
A great way to help with the stink is to be sure you are hydrating properly, have good hygiene to get rid of the bad bacteria, and have bentonite clay. You can make a paste for your pits with it or add a small amount to some water to help grab those toxins from the inside and come out in your urine or feces.
I was also feeling bloated all the time. My gut could not break down any of the foods I was giving it, even the good ones. Adding in a good quality pre-probiotic and digestive enzymes has helped tremendously with this. When you have your microbiome all out of whack it can not do what is supposed to. Giving it the help, it needs to rebuild those good bacteria will help with the bloating, inflammation, pain, discomfort, and bowel movements.
Eat primarily cooked foods, chew thoroughly, and avoid inflammatory foods such as sugar and processed foods.
If the thyroid and adrenals are not functioning properly the energy fluctuations can be a real killer. You are always tired, feel like you are never sleeping, have brain fog, and body aches, and are physically drained. This is due to caffeine and sugar withdrawals. The increased metabolic need stresses your body and is causing these fluctuations. This will level out as the toxins are expelled. As hard as it may seem cutting out those extra cups of coffee, tea, energy drinks, sodas, and juices will help. When you stop adding more toxins the body can work to remove what is not to be there resulting in more energy, stamina, and mental clarity.
With vitamin deficiency, most will have hormonal imbalances as well. Some of those symptoms overlap with vitamin deficiency symptoms. Those symptoms are fatigue, weight changes, hard to fall asleep, changes in the skin, low libido, and fertility issues.
Getting those vitamins back to optimal levels will balance out the hormones as well. All of this is a combination of supplementation, eating right, exercise, and stress management techniques. It is work and takes time to fix all those deficiencies and imbalances. Stick with it and listen to your body. The more you get in tune with your body the better you can build a great regimen for YOUR body!
This healing process has taken so many turns over the last 6 months. Those turns have taught me so much about my body and how to live intuitively to heal. Some days are bad, and others are great and until I have healed all the way and stick with a good plan for my body I will continue this process so I can be there for my kids, grandkids, husband, friends, and family while living a fulfilling life!
