The Best Gluten-free Pizza Recipe

Who doesn't love pizza? My family is obsessed with pizza. It is one of the top requests. I went through my old school recipe books I got from my grandmother to find a pizza dough recipe, so I could try making a gluten-free pizza.

After I found a recipe to make the dough, I asked my 13-year-old daughter if she wanted to help me make a bunch of pizzas for dinner. She happily agreed. We started pulling out all the supplies we would need and got all set up on our kitchen table to make these pizzas.

After pulling out all the supplies, I realized I did not have enough yeast. So we called the grandparents to see if they had any, so I didn't have to make a trip to town. With the confirmation of the needed yeast, I made a trip down the road to get the yeast. Thanks to the parents for the help and for saving me time and gas.

I have a kitchen aid mixer for all these big jobs, but a regular bowl and mixing spoon will work too. Our plan was to make 2 pizzas and cheesy bread. We started by prepping the dough so it could sit and rise while we worked on the sauce and cutting up all of our toppings.

After we got the 3 balls of dough mixed up and sitting to rise, we put together the sauce and set that aside to marinate together while we worked on cutting up all of our toppings. Since I have a small kitchen and dining area, we moved the bowls of dough to sit inside the oven, which was not preheating then, so we had room to prep the sauce and toppings in the dining area.

Her favorite toppings on a pizza are pepperoni, sausage, and olives. My husband and I love supreme pizza. My son will eat any pizza as long as there are no mushrooms on it. He loves all the different pizzas and always requests them when he has the option to pick what's for dinner.

For the second pizza, we did pepperoni, sausage, olives, onions, and mushrooms on half of it, because, as I said, my son will not eat mushrooms. For the cheesy bread, we just topped it with a bunch of mozzarella cheese, and some extra Italian seasoning sprinkled over the top of the cheese. You can print the recipe here.

After we got all our cheese shredded, toppings cut up, and sauce mixed up, we set up the area to roll out our dough. I sprinkled flour on the table to knead and roll out each crust. I did the first one to show my daughter how to do it and transferred it to the pan. She kneaded the other two balls and got them transferred to their pans. We precooked each crust for about 5 minutes to ensure they were nice and crispy. We poked the dough with a fork to keep it from bubbling.

We finally got to the fun part of putting all the toppings on. She had me take the pictures so she wouldn't miss out on putting the toppings. I made a few touch-ups to ensure the toppings were spread out evenly and added an extra sprinkle of Italian seasoning over the cheese. We placed them in the oven to bake them all up. We did them individually to ensure an even cook on the pizza.

Her pizza with pepperoni, pork sausage, and olives only took about 15 minutes. The supreme we made took a little longer because of the, I would say it was golden brown number of toppings we had on it. We set the timer for 15 minutes and then just checked it every couple minutes after that till it was golden brown, I would say closer to 22 minutes.

The cheesy bread took 1 minute. The next time we do a pizza party,, we will make the cheesy bread before the pizzas so people can nibble on that while the pizzas are cooking. For our dipping sauce, we used the leftover pizza sauce we mixed up, ranch, and some leftover garlic butter dipping sauce from a previous pizza order.

Since we had to cook each pizza separately, it took around an hour for everything to be done. The kids started enjoying the first pizza while I finished baking the other one and the cheesy bread, so that it wouldn't be cold by the time everything was done. Everyone loved the pizzas.

The crust was the perfect crispiness but not too thin. The key to the golden crust was the olive oil around the edge. The cheese was a perfect golden brown, and all the flavors were to die for. The kids surprisingly did not eat the whole pizza, not because they didn't like it but because they said it was very filling, so 2 pieces each was a good amount instead of 4.

I plan to try doing a cheese-stuffed crust the next time we make pizzas. Brush the crust with olive oil and sprinkle some garlic, parmesan, and Italian seasoning. That sounds so good, and I can guarantee the family will love this. I may use this as a perfect thing to do as a family when the college kiddo comes home for a visit.

Pizza night was a huge success, even though it took some work to get it all together. I totaled up everything I purchased for the pizza night, which cost slightly over $20. I already had everything I needed to make the dough, so if you need those supplies, I would say about another $10-$15. So in total, spending roughly $35 for 2 pizzas and cheesy bread is a deal seeing as the last time I ordered 3 pizzas from a pizza shop, the total was $60.

Even better, we had more leftovers and ended up eating them for dinner the next day. What I would do differently next time: cook two pizzas at the same time so they are all done close to the same time. I would assume the cooking time may take a little bit longer than cooking separately. When we test that out, I will update the recipe.

Pizza dough - 1 crust

Ingredients:

2 cups flour - I use Bob's red mill 1 to 1 gluten-free

2 1/4 tsp active yeast

1 1/2 tsp sugar

3/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp garlic powder

2 Tbsp olive oil

3/4 cup warm water

Sauce ingredients:

2 cans tomato sauce

1 Tbsp Italian seasoning

Topping options:

Pepperoni

pork sausage

Italian sausage

Ham

Peppers

onions

olives

mushrooms

Cheese 1 cup worked for each pizza we made.

Directions:

1. combine yeast with warm water luke warm is best and preheat oven to 425

2. In a bowl mix 1 cup of flour, the sugar, the olive oil, and the salt with the water yeast mixture.

3. after the ingredients are all combined gradually add the rest of the flour in 1/4 cup increments until the dough easily pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

4. grease a separate bowl, place ball of dough inside cover with towel or plastic wrap and let sit for 30-60 minutes until doubled in size. (you do not have to move to a separate bowl to rise if you do not want to, you can add a small amount of olive oil to mixing bowl and turn dough over to get it under so it wont stick)

5. While dough is rising mix your tomato sauce with Italian seasoning and prep your toppings.

6. Once dough has risen, sprinkle some four on table and knead dough 2-3 times.

7. Roll out dough by hand or with rolling pin to a 12"-16" circle. transfer to a greased pizza pan. poke with a fork to keep it from bubbling up. Bake for 5 min

8. Brush some olive oil around the edges of the crust. Spread your pizza sauce on the crust and add your toppings. bake 13-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Enjoy!
