My honest opinion of Gluten-free Seltzers
I am a true Wisconsinite through and through. I refuse to change my love for cheese and a great adult beverage in my diet. I have cut back on the cheese I consume but can not cut it out completely. I am contemplating cutting back on adult beverages to aid in my healing, yet I still want the option to enjoy one now and then.
There are many options out there these days that do not include gluten. I was pleasantly surprised by the selections at several different stores. I picked out several to try out, invited some friends to share, and did some taste testing.
My go-to drink for years has been Malibu Rum with water and a fresh squeeze of lime. When going somewhere that we need to pack a cooler. This is not always something I can bring to mix my own beverages. Plus, when you go out to eat, they frown upon you bringing your own drinks in.
Regarding my adult beverages, finding some great-tasting gluten-free options has taken some time and research. After all the research, I purchased what I could find in my area to do some taste testing.
I am sure there are more, but this is what I could find in my area. Now, remember, I am in a small town, not a big city, so you may be able to find a much more comprehensive selection than I am.
Bud Light Seltzer (Only in the US. Canada contains gluten)
The mango and lemon-lime flavors were my choices from their long list of flavors. If you like a sweeter fruity taste, go for those. They were crisp with just enough flavor and no after-taste.
Carbliss
All the flavors were delish. The cranberry was crisp and tart in a good way. The lemon-lime was perfect for me as I like those citrus flavors the best. The margarita flavor was also perfection. The Black raspberry was a little sweet for my liking but had good flavor. These are all made with Vodka other than the margarita, which is made with tequila.
Crook & Marker
I could only find the lime margarita and blackberry mojito flavors. They were both too sweet for my liking, but this will be an excellent option if that is what you like. The alcohol is made from organic, gluten-free grains.
High Noon Sun Sips
This brand has several flavors to choose from. I tried the guava and grapefruit and felt they lacked flavor and left a weird aftertaste.
Malibu Splash
This has 4 flavors. Pineapple, strawberry, passion fruit, and lime. I did not like the strawberry, but the others were perfect. Pineapple and lime are my favorite flavors from this brand.
Truly
This is another one that has a wide variety of flavors. They were all on the sweet side for me. I tried the classic, tropical, and punch flavors. At least I will have drinks for the gals the next time we all get together because I could not finish any of them. That said, this one is for you if you like very sweet!
White Claw
Yet again, another one not lacking in flavors. Of all these, I liked the classic flavors of watermelon, lime, tangerine, and passion fruit. Their new surf varieties are an acquired taste, in my opinion. The ones I liked were citrus and watermelon.
You won't be disappointed by these options for the next bonfire, backyard barbeque, or get-togethers with friends.
Of all these beverages, the one brand I liked the best was Carbliss. They had great flavor, no carbs, alcohol vs. malt liquor, sugar-free and cooler gluten-free. So for the next time I need to pack a cooler or am out, I know what I can order when I want an adult beverage.
Hopefully, this helps you narrow your search if you are looking for a great-tasting adult beverage that fits your lifestyle!
I want to know. What do you think?
